School #5 News November 2021 |
Dear School #5 Families, I hope that your family enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. For all of our families who are celebrating Hanukkah, I wish you much love, peace and joy this season. November has been a busy month at School #5! Our students, across all grade levels, are working hard in their Teacher’s College Writing workshops on their personal narratives and trouble stories! I have personally enjoyed the chance to hear about their experiences and see the growth in their writing since the start of the school year. Our scientists have been participating in hands-on-activities as they explore the world around them, including landforms/waterways, the properties of water, food chains/ecosystems and natural disasters. In math our first graders are working hard to build their skills with addition, while our second graders are taking on subtraction and regrouping. Our third graders are fast becoming multiplication experts and our fourth graders are beginning to divide large numbers. Fifth grade mathematicians are exploring how to multiply with multiple digits and our 6th grade rock stars have just finished integers and rational numbers and are now moving onto numeric and algebraic equations! Thank you to our PTA and parent volunteers for organizing this month’s pie sale and our holiday boutique! It was wonderful to see so many of our families shopping together last Monday night! We look forward to welcoming all of our families this Thursday, December 3rd for Parent-Teacher Conferences. As a reminder, there will be no school for students on this date. If you are coming to school for an in-person conference, please be sure to arrange child care coverage for your child/ren and siblings. As we look ahead to the upcoming weeks, here are some important dates to keep in mind…
